Any idea where this picture was taken?
MY Father took this on the isle of MUCK about 1966
Cheers Robert ! Ive never been on Muck -sailed past it plenty though! Was your father a pufferman?
Both my Grampa and my Father wer puffer men
In the small village where I was brought up, at one time there were at least 7 men on the puffers, late 40s early 50s. My dad was on LIMELIGHT and RAYLIGHT, and had an uncle on PIBROCH, the whisky boat, and another uncle on the GLENCLOY. My granny ran the Post Office and small shop in the village, and the only phone, so when the puffer companies needed a crew member, they phoned the shop..
Dad was mate on the GLENCLOY when she was new then went on to skiper the LASCAR KAFFIR SPARTAN and the ANZAC the LASCAR was the first of the diesel convertions

Was it the Spartan that was used in the original Vital Spark TV series? and was it the Spartan that had her final resting place in Bowling harbour?

one of the puffers used was the sitka ! (APPROX MID 70's) She lay in troon after filming for a good couple of years I had a look round her -pretty rough an ready! When they were filming in Arran the skipper was checking the harbours and asked me an my brother about the depth of water at the sandstone quay corrie - we told him and next day the "vital spark" arrived .... we were about 7 year old at the time...!! I wish i was as plausible now!!
Para Handy 2 - they were filming the boat coming into brodick pier (before calmac wrecked it for everybody else!)
The Sitka was diesel but still had lum in front of wheelhouse steam style. The crew fed smoke canisters through a hole it t he back o the lum from the wheelhouse window -all to create the coal burner effect! It was looking pretty realistic until someone put a purple smoke canister in! CUT!!!!
