Smit Barge 2 and Tempest

The latest arrival of sections from a decommissioned North Sea Gas Platform arrives in the Port of Tyne, North East England on 22nd May 2011 for recycling at the former Swan Hunter Wallsend Yard.

The Tug, TEMPEST had towed the Barge, SMIT 3 with the rig sections from the UK Continental Shelf for Veolia Environmental Services (UK) Plc to recycle the redundant Platform. Assisting the Barge in the Tyne were SVITZER REDBRIDGE and OSPREY BOXER.

Veolia Environmental Services (UK) Plc with their decommissioning partner, Peterson SBS, are contracted to recycle eight gas field ‘jackets’ (rig legs) and eight topside structures with a total tonnage 10,500 tonnes from the Platform which is being decommissioned from April to October 2011.
