Ye've jogged my memory there Clamcal. That yin was running live lobsters right enough. They were boxed in the hold and kept alive by a sprinkler system, two big water pumps, one pumping water in,the other one pumping the bilges tae take it out...simple arrangement and very effective 'til the bilge pump choked half way across the Minch in the middle of the night.First they kent about it was the water up to the air intake(it was either a 114 or a 152 in her)and got sooked in.Result...a big bang and engine needing a major overhaul.I'd forgotten about that escapade 'til ye mentioned it.
thanks for the info yr i never heard of that event i seem to think rodney george the shellfish buyer had sumit to do with the running of things. there was another boat doing the same thing in the 80s a big vivier crabber called the jbt she was run by sum consortium dont know if barratlantic had anything to do with her but im fairly sure rg did she ran the stuff to france and spain ithink she was based in barra they werent allowed to fish with her and the skipper had to have a merchant ticket think she only ran for a couple of years. happy new year wen it comes young ron
