Girl Jean AH 76 as built.

Girl Jean AH 76 as built.

This is another shot of the Girl Jean in her original state. Photo recently acquired from DC Thomson. Old photos like this are so welcome when they appear as I would be hard pressed to attempt a good representation without them. Indeed, it is the appearance of this pic and two others which made me change course and depict her as built.  Sometimes they arrive early on and sadly some a good bit later but they don't come much better than this.  Hope you agree.
Only just noticed that she appears to have a Miller winch/coiler rather than the Sutherland winch and Beccles coiler she obviously later acquired.  This photo is dated '11/48'.
Photo reproduced with kind permission of D.C. Thomson, Dundee.

Morning Earlsferry. Aye she is in the tidal (outer) harbour at Arbroath. You must have brilliant knowledge and eyesight for the info, Bryan. Surprised that there is so few boats in harbour as they were either "all-out or "all-in".

He is obviously rigged for the seine net, but I canna figure oot the reason for his lifting derrick or jilson pole being situated far it is,like a ring net boat..He surley didna lift his cod end or bag aboard there, or did he ?  :police:

I think the mastra was installed before she acquired her 3rd (steel) wheelhouse and sometime before her move to Pittenweem. There is a picture somewhere showing her with her larger wheelhouse and steel galley and the winch has been identified on that photo as a Sutherland winch. On that rebuild, she sports goalposts atop the galley but retains her wood foremast. Sometime after but still at Arbroath, the foremast was replaced with a tripod.  As far as I am aware, that arrangement was with her when she moved to Pittenweem taking up the registration KY 237. There were other additions such as a small canvas covered gutting shelter on her starboard side.  If anybody wants to add to this, feel free.  Thanks for all the comments so far.  I'll have to get back to Syd Cargill and see what else I can find out.
