The stringers were first spray-painted white before being fixed to the top frames. Although two thirds of the above-deck frames are dummies this gives a fairly strong structure which can then be finely honed to the tops of the gunwales without any breakages. The capping is made from 1.8 inch thick mahogany and has to be in very short sections particularly at the stern where the radius is quite small.
