Fisher Queen FR331 centre of pic
Also Golden Feather, FR.225 And Gowanlea. FR.130, Craigearn FR.177. Lying at Tom Buchans coalyard.
Its interesting to see that there is still a few of the motor drifters seem to prefer the upright capstains driven by steam in preferance to the dual purpose Lossie or Macduff belt driven winches . I notice to that drifter nearest to the camera must be ........a Peterheeder, with the fite painted bands and dark coloured tips to masts and spars, ... maybee GEE BEE could explain........
Well spotted, Baggywrinkle, as by the time of the photo most capstans, like the line haulers, were powered by compressed air; and she certainly looks like a "Mogganer;" Gee Bee 'll ken. Gowanlea still has her MFV "cassin'"; possibly still then skippered by WilliamAlec Tait, before Bill MacKay, his mate, took over. Note the "Tae Stall", of happy memory on a summer mornin', left of Tom Buchan's Coal yard.
I remember, many years ago after "a New Toon" wedding, in a house there, when drams may have been taken, "young" Tom Buchan singing,
"Over on the starboard side,
Over on the starboard side,
The herrin' are gettin' spotty,
I hope we'll get a "shottie"
Over on the starboard side."
Never heard it before or since, sadly.
