Some old uns there Dave. Haven't seen a roller on the port beam other than drifters. Could Catman be on the ball? However, there is a trawlboard lying on deck as well...?
theres 3 doors you can see on the deck will  :uglystupid2:

Ach it's been a long day.  Interesting to find out more though.  :uglystupid2:
interestin wee boat, just noticed that the wheelhoose is sat beneath the mizzen sail.
when these type of boats were built, they were for working the rippers/sproles, or the creels, poss lines.
the wheelhouse is placed well aft to give more deckroom,
when some started trawling for prawns thats when they found it not very handy with a small quarter.
the mast in front of wheelhouse, could also take a landing derrick on it too,,
theres actually 4 trawl boards on deck,  2 forward,2 aft. mebey going twin twin-riggin  ha ha..
the board in front of wheelhouse has been used recently theres a shine on the bottom keel,,
by the way all the gear is lying about the deck ,she,s either just been bought to the place or sold from it,,,

    Think its Kindly Light BK168......................
its the kindly light theyd just started the trawl and the two sets of gear was to find which suited the boat best the roller forrad is for the creeve hauler one either side she hauled both sides depending on the tide
Years ago, before hydro slaves and things like that we used a roller exactly the same as that in the cobles for hauling the pots over, coupled with an Hyland Hydraulic winch.
Of course the lads down to the norrard were using vee wheels long before anyone else.
These small boats used the same method, pulled the boat up to the gear, in the cobles we aways took the rudder off when hauling to stop the port or starboard bias, once you started yukking her astern.
Some job sometimes putting back on again when you got that fleet hauled if the weather wsn't too good, but it's all down to knack.
With that little coble I have now, she has a long rudder(made it last year) and I found that I still automatically used the techniques as I did in WY all those years ago
I would like to re-post this photo on shipsnostalgia, its a very interestin photo. just would like to ask before i steal it..... I am now the owner of the Kindly Light, she is still going strong after many years service.
