Girl Jean AH76 going up slip

Girl Jean AH76 going up slip

Just obtained photocopy of Girl Jean goin up the slip. My heart sank when I realised the earlier wooden galley was smaller than the later steel one.  Also that the wooden wheelhouse was smaller than that later fitted.
Surgery required the removal of the width of one window from each side of the galley and removal of the blank panels each side of the wheelhouse. I also reduced the height of the galley by 3mm. It appears she also has windows on rear of wheelhouse looking over the top of the galley. Also the engine room lights were further forward than later fitted.
The work has now been carried out.  These are the hazards of scaling and working from photographs (or the lack of them) However, I am happy that the structure is now fairly representative of the original. As I have said before and with the lack of drawings, I build representations rather than scale models of boats and the challenge is to get her as near right as possible.
Photo reproduced with kind permission of D.C. Thomson, Dundee.

jist a wee thocht will, seeing her  varnished in the pic, dae ye no fancy varnishing the model??
after a year you could aye paint her blue then,? or not....

That's all part o the plan, Forepeak. They got fed-up varnishing her after 5 years or so then when she got her new wheelhouse and steel galley, she was painted blue. Just got to disguise the pilot holes of the later position for engine room lights then try the varnish.  I won't be able to stain her as there are too many adhesive saturation areas on the surface so she'll just be the natural wood colour. We'll see how it goes. I havena built a boat yet that was straight forward.
aye will ,theres aye something,,,,but she,s coming along nicely,
if it hadn,t been for the economics of the job changing, there would still of been varnished hulls into the 90s etc, but folk jist dont have the time it takes to look after varnished boats properly,,,
and now theres hardly a wooden boat built,  they,ll just have to try scummellin on a steel hull for the varnish effect ,lol.

Thanks for PM Forepeak.......sorted!   Just noticed that the port reg number is shaded to the right. That's the first 'AH' boat I've seen wi such a detail as they're usually to the left..... Just to be different?... Superstition?
pure economics will, white wheelhoose 250 pound,, scummeled wheelhoose 1,000 pound,
a dont know the prices but jist an example,,,
