Me posing with the dhan as we head for Ayr. Must have been summer time coming back with hake from the west side as we have 12 coil of rope each side aboard. We only worked ten or less each side in winter.
Am a ex fly shooter /seine neter i had it easy in them days man handle the ropes in the pic thats a job
We never thought much about it in those days, but I must admit that I used envisage the ropes going into a hole in the deck and a shelter over my head, but could never see how it would work. Rope bins came eventually, but were never as successful as the reels. Boats are built with more safety in mind and to accommodate the more sophisticated instruments in the wheelhouse and a lot heavier gear. We could never have worked gear like that in those days. We only worked with what we had and welcomed each improvement.
