I'm back filing after a very long break
Former Alex Noble-built ringer-trawler, etc Vigilant awaits her fate in Macduff
was talking about men who were on the same boat 5,10,20 years, what re training/financial help was available for them from the GOVERNMENT when the boat was de commed ?
those type of guys that are not shareholders are few and far between these days a definate minorty group!
was talking about from the start of the de comm not this round in particular
if a boat is sold the crew just moves on ...i dont think theres much difference between selling or scrapping really ...if you have put nothing in thats what you get out ...nothing new there any crewman who has been in the job 5-10-20 years will be well aware of this and would not be expecting anything different ...unless hes some sort of deluded communist
just to clarify my comment, what financial help/retraining is available from the GOVERMENT not from the owner
financial help fae the government,
yes they get DOLE.........
i agree the GOVT. should give them some kind of redundancy,
after all not their fault there jobs been lost..
based on years there etc.
but i wouldn,t hold my breath on it happening,,
it took 20yrs, and more for the deep sea trawler fleet crews to get some sort of redundancy after the cod wars put them on the dole. i think some of them still fighting for it yet,

When I came ashore all I got was a handful of needles, two or three balls of twine, a marlin spike and a blunt knife and told to make myself useful
lol but I bet u offered ur services John
Under protest Gordon, under protest, was told they mended when I was in the wheelerie so now the boot was on the other foot
