The Unity was Jimmy (Pallets) Strachan's boat, but Jakie Reid took her oot and won the Boothby Trophy 1956. What an experience for a boy! 236 cran o' herrin'. All credit to Robert Boothby,he was certainly a great champion of the herring fishermen even if his private life was "somewhat colourful" 8:) ???
At least he fought for the industry!
Well said George, unlike present day politician's who only appear when the damage has been done and try to say that they will help the fishermen whern in fact they can do nothing other than claim large amount's of public cash in expenses.Bob Boothby was a remarkable person who stood up for the fishermen.Next time you vote have a think and ask and also take note of all the promises the candidate states he will do for you.....................

Donald Anderson gives a very good descripsion of that event in one of his DVD,s I think there was a few people not too happy about the eventual outcome.  I sailed with baith the Lemon brothers in different boats and never knew they were twins till David sadly passed away so suddenly. Great lads..
The Lemon family were very well known in the fishing industry in the North East and beyond,I alway's remember them when they lived in King Street,Peterhead. The North Sea was in their blood, and by the way the Lem's I know now sit's up in his bunk, playing his IPAD,IPOD TOUCH,IPHONE4 as well as his WI-Fi computer,if his father seen him noo lol lol lol
aye gavin changed days,ha ha widna manage fit i fore fathers did noo.boats o wood and men o steel
I-pod, WiFi, private toilet, shower, sofa, gym!! What next? A private butler to "tuck you in", and bring you a coffee before you go on deck?? Maybe even organize a trophy for the Pampered Deckie of the Year! Once that got going, could do the same for the Pampered Skipper of the Year!  8:) ???
PS Your father wasn't like that. He was at Faroe when he was 12, at the great-lines with his Uncle George on the Fragrance PD345 (open deck).
