Brighter Dawn built Forbes 54 at the   lines in the photo, I did not know ther was so many PD boats that went to the great lines in the late 50s early 60s
Most of them switched to seine net early 60s. Brighter Dawn and Devotion were last 2 to fish eastern North Sea from PD. That's old-style, hand baiting etc. Very conservative method, catching only mature fish. I was on her (chancer) a trip in summer of '73. Skipper Alex Morgan was on holiday. We went into Flekkefjord for the weekend. Stanley, who was skipper that trip, wanted to see his boat "Summer Dawn", which was building at the time. Hull complete, Brighter Dawn's hull lying in sections in a corner, and Nordic Prince in the water well on to completion. That may have been B. Dawn's last year at the job. Devotion may have gone another year. Not sure.
We ran ashore one night at camas mhor  Isle Martin it was Alex Brighter Dawn and Willie Jack the Silver Harvest that towed us off with our own neebour, and I can assure them men did'nt do it for gain. GENTLEMEN, Feb  1964.
Decent men, you're right there, ringnetman.
Back to the amount of PD line boats Bryan .. Had a "think" about the PD men that I remember at the great-lines ..
Starlight, Silver Hope, Trustful, Devotion, Brighter Dawn, Morning Dawn, Caledonian, Sundari, Fragrance, Duthies, Daisy, Shalimar, Graceful, Christine, Fertile Vale, Fertility, Primula, Fruitful Bough, Star of Bethlehem.. That's all I remember just now. As "loons" we were always climbing on the boats. Some of the older men would tell us it was ok to fish aboard, with a line and hook for a podlie, but not to climb on the lines, and disturb the hooks. Never knew how important that advice was, till I stood at the baiting basket years later, and the mate shouting "Come astarn" .. with one or more hooks fouled up with the line, and the boat steaming at almost full speed .. Fairly blew away any cobwebs , time o' shooting!!!
Some had stopped before I remember them at that job. eg Lunar Bow, Ugie Vale, Resplendent, Violet Flower, Bren Jean ..

Aye George no a job for falling asleep ,at I know a few of the KY line men one of them was Alf Smith one  his jobs  was to take any hooks out of the lads hands if they went fowl at the time of shooting.you learn some thing every day I thought the KY men had the bulk of the line boats with a few PD FR boats never thought PD had so many.
Bryan, the PD men fished Faroe, some Rockall 50s- early 60s, but more in North Sea, as I remember. Pobies, Patch, Viking, east (from Reef to Norwegian coast). All history. 10 aboard each boat.
