This photo hangs in a pun on Holy Island, Northumberland. Can anybody tell me the location of where the pic was taken?
there used to be a few of these upturned hulls converted to sheds on the beach at holy island years ago. i think they've all gone now
I think there are still some of the upturned Herring Boats still being used as sheds on Lindisfarne Terry - if not, someone has pocketed £24,970 from the Heritage Lottery Fund - check out

I'm wondering if the original boats were actually destroyed by fire a while ago and perhaps this is a project to rebuild them?
Regards
Steve

Lindisfarne Castle Upturned Boats Project
Location: Northumberland
The project will involve the community of Holy Island in research, conservation and interpretation work on National Trust owned property within the grounds of Lindisfarne Castle. The residents approached the Trust with a request to preserve a number of upturned boats, now used for storage, which have become a feature of the island’s historical heritage.
Schools, community group and residents wish to ensure the future of the boats for future generations and learn more about their contribution to the island. Conservation work, will be carried out by local boat builders and volunteers under the supervision of Trust professionals, learning traditional boat building skills in the process. Schools, local history groups and residents will research and record the history of the vessels, drawing on local knowledge.
This information will be captured in interpretation materials and leaflets. A launch event will be held to stimulate the interest of residents and the project will close with a dissemination event. An educational pack will be produced with input from two local schools. Upon completion, two of the historical vessels will be accessible to the public and will display interpretive materials and artefacts illustrating past use.

The above "link" refers to when a coupla boatsheds at the Castle were burnt a few years ago. They were then replaced by Coastal Marine from Eyemouth.
Going back to my pic, can anyone say for certain that this was a Holy Island pic.........it could be anywhere.
