I haven't been to Peterhead for 40 years, is there anything left of Richard Irvins? Any info on the boat in the photo PD378?

What a perfect example of the boat builders art

She is the Osprey and was in Arbroath mid 80s rigged for the prawn trawl.
was she not built by buchans of peterhead abt 35 ft ?
That's right. They built some lovely boats .. Osprey, Hope, Nobles etc. Five yards were building boats when I was a boy in PD .. Mitchell, Livingston (both building steel boats). Herd & Mackenzie, Irvin, A & J Buchan (wooden boats).
Shades of " The Proclaimers"  .. Mitchell no more, Livingston no more etc. etc.
It's shocking to drive round near empty basins and hear the silence. Nobody cycling to the point of the North Breakwater now, asking for a "lumping" job as we came in.
Still, we're in the 21st Century now, so you can still go out and catch fish, but remember to dump them before you come in!! Thanksalot, Europe ... you're some guys (and gals) !!
a brain teaser for you gee bee,
can you mind when the north entrance to pd. was closed?;)
also do you have any pictures of boats using it?
No, must have some info somewhere. It was finally closed off with the major alterations when Alexandra Parade and the market etc were built. But don't know when it ceased to be a proper entrance. I remember crossing the booms which closed the entrance as a boy. They were opened at big tides to let the water "sloosh" through, and de-silt the harbour! Also opened to let Herdies' newly launched boats into the harbour.
I remember an old half sunken mfv being taken out that entrance on a very high tide, by the Sparkling Star PD314 (Arbroath built), and Radiant Star PD159 (Zander Finlay). She'd lain at the foot of the slip for yonks. No big pay-outs for decomm. then!!
I've seen pics, but don't have any!
