Come on some of you youngsters who find b/w pics boring........have you no soul this is a brilliant photo even if you prefer full colour shots of steel boats.
i thocht he wid of hud his mizzen up ,for steamin,,

???Scotsmen were nae too keen on that, cause they lowered it again time o' shootin' the drifts, n' if there wis a bit too much wind, the used to tie an empty fish box on to a 10 fathom bit o' rope, and threw it over the opposite side to slow the boat down a bit, to make for cannier shooting afore the wind.

we once had 4 fishboxes tied together on about 10 fm of rope used it as a jury rudder,
took it from side to side to alter the boat,went 6 miles to harbour like that,,

Aye Williemin had ti dee the same a while back when he lost a rudder in Loch Dunvegan but no as long a steam canna mind if it wiz the Island Rose or the Try Again that it happened
Tried the fish box trick wi' the old man when we dropped our rudder at Colonsay pier,couple of boxes each side on ropes going to both whipping drums on the winch but we didnae find that much of a benefit.Got far better results when we tied the landing derrick over the stern(jaws in the water),steered as bonny as you like that way and nae faffing aboot wi' boxes getting pulled up and doon like a lady of the night's undergarments
last year we had steering problems run 8 -10 mile wi a net ower the stern an jist slacked a side o sweep to swing her about managed ot get a mile or two off the harbour that way
Me me me 008 it begs the question what didnt you break last year,we all have hold your head in your hands spells but you must have broken some records.
see over the past two year bob i think we have rebuilt the while feckin boat apart from the hull but hey i am still here smiling(sometimes)and still in for the chance to make my millions
