A great piece of engineering work there..like all the other canals, plenty brute strength and "horse power" went into building it.
Fantastic feat of engineering ronnie a national treasure !

Rather old but still in not too bad nick although it does need a fair bit of maintenance nowadays to keep it going...kinda like yourself then Norman? ;D ;D ;D
Only been through once the full length ronnie in 1971 bringing our new boat from the river Tyne ,always wanted to do it again God willing  ;D ;D ;D

A fine jaunt if you've no rush, a pocket full of £'s for the half way pub and no midgies
If you tried to build that now a days it'd take longer to get it passed the greens than it did to
    build it originally  ;D
saw a programme about the canal, think it was 'coast' or something, was really good. They said that by the time theyd finished building it, it was of no use to the ships it was built for (freighters), as they were by then too large for it.

Saw some pictures somewhere of when a boatt stuck in gear and wiped out a few of the gates & left the canal dry, canna mind the boats name...
I've a copy of that edition of coast if anyone wants I could upload it.  There's a also a wee bit of the zulu Pansy sitting on the bottom of loch ness
Aye, get it up Mark. I hevna seen it yet. Cheers.
The skipper of the Silver Sea said it cost him 7£ for the full 60mile transit in 1966 i wonder what it would cost now, anyone know for a 50footer ?
£16.80 per metre I think at the minute so £250 or more I'd guess

stuck the whole episode of coast on the blog at http://bf494.co.uk/a...n-the-caley.mp4

there's a clip of just the bit of pansy on the bottom of loch ness at http://bf494.co.uk/b...y-eats-spammers
