Maybee he doesn't know where the throttle is or hasn't realised that more throttle means more stearage. You can turn these boats in their own length if you use the throttle so why the extension?

She was very easy to spin in her own length as most of them were ... just cranking the Gardner box aheid an astern and flicking the wheel as necessary
