    its strange how its only strangers that lie the wrong way roond in that berth?:laugh:O0
    A lot of Ayrshire boats lifted over port side : especially ringer types and they berthed starboard side to quay at Ayr so land their caatches over starboard side as lifting pole is on port side. Big east coast herring boats etc used to turn in river and lie bow towards sea :>oppssite from locals. This may have something to do with direction boats are lying in previous comment!? .
    possibly, sorcha, but ive seen boats lie there like that with their lifting derriks on the starboard side,
    its not a landing berth although can be used as such,if the harbour is busy,,
    re. ayr,apart from the boats lifting on port side and landing starboard side, they also lay head upriver,in case any big trees came down ,which might damage their rudder/prop. etc..
    by the look of their clam rig they could land either side if needed,,,
