    uncle Buff's boat  O0

am surprised the twin engine set-up wasn't more popular in fishin boats. ???
Was this the boat with two 6 lyt gardners in her? Norwegians are building small pursers now with multiple engines. Diesel electric.
yeah 2 big gardeners in it.  (or is it gardners? one drinks tea and one drinks diesel))

are the noggies using azi-pods for their diesel electric?

last few ships ive worked on (offshore) have been diesel electric and theyre magic for flexibility and maneouverability

Bauduin used the 2 engine 1 gearbox set up too catman,a great idea but very very costly, especially the box.2x 230 Gardners and a double box you would be talking telephone numbers compared to a 450 Cummins and a twin disc or such like..not to mention a major overhaul on 2x 8L3Bs...that wid pit ye in the parish hame ???

Became the Floreat AH68 it was a cat in her when she was in Arbroath Mackay boatbuilders decomed her.
No azipods on the pursers. Just single screw and fore and aft thrusters. They just knock down the power when there searching, steaming or in harbour etc. Then when there pursing and chilling water down they have maximum power to do so. I think it's the future really but the initial expense would frighten you. The azipods are something else for manouvering though. I'm surprised the pursers havnt installed them. I suppose the extra expense can't be justified when they are capable of doing the job well enough anyway. Catman, have you seen the voith schnieders in operation? Few big noggie supply boats using that type of propulsion now. Amazing kit
buchan strachan had a similar set up in the brothers was it not
    2 x 230 gardners with twin screws
two smaller eng's giving more bollard pull than one eng of same hp

dont no if it is a good set up but has pro and cons i suppose
Think the ardency here had a fancy gearbox which went into one shaft and prop. I would imagine it would be very hard to get both engines in perfect sync. Especially back then without electronics. You would end up with one engine acting like a brake on the other engine. All kinds of extra stress on components I would think. Did the freedwood 2 not have weird kind of setup as well? Then there was tony cowe's wisteria.

The Mainprises Pathfinder from SH had the same set up twin 230 gardners in her she was lost at the sprats when she was not that old.

    caveat emptor

Think the FR Wisteria had twin engines too IIRC.

(just noticed the post two above!)
