Dolphin Mooring Post

Dolphin Mooring Post by Northern Freeform and standing outside of the New Dolphin on North Shields Fishquay.

Evidently a Dolphin Mooring Post was a traditional mooring post that was in the past used on the River Tyne - or as we Geordies would call it, a Staithe.

The bottom of the sculpture is made from ceramic tiles depicting sea creatures.

Was that for winching sailing colliers into the quay- i.e. take a line across in the punt and capstan her in to berth. Like the Beildin in Tarbert!?
