SAXON PROGRESS

SAXON PROGRESS in Portland, Victoria, Australia
11th October, 2009
Built in Grimsby (UK) in 1961.

    Hi Joy

A long, long way from home....... Sold to Australian Owners in the 1970's.

Original Fishing Registration Number here in the UK was GY655.

Builder in Grimsby was J.S Doig Ltd

    Regards

    Steve E.
Last known owner was Jim Collins of C2U Fish Markets in Tasmania.
    Original name was PHOEBE.
Not easy to find information on some of these trawlers down here.
    Saxon Progress  GY.655.  on.301848    66nt.197gt. 622hp.   owners Forward S.F.Co.Ltd.
This raised a little question in my mind (feeble I know) but I wonder if there are any Australian built Trawlers that now fish in the UK Fleet?

    Regards

    Steve E.

Dave there was a 40footer that fished out of Tarbert mid to late 60's at the seine net and I believe owned or skippered by a John Sime, can not remember if her name was Radiant Morn, but she was def a Forbes build, I believe she did in fact go to Aus. maybe Swivel will able to give you more info as he has better memory.
when i last looked down the engine room on her she had a big CAT .her old name just dosnt suit.. for she is quite the legend down here ,when the fishin was good she was a good boat to be on especially when it was blowin...

where would one begin to find plans of her?????????????O0
