    Good to see that you've captured SMM for this website, Steve
    She is one of three sister ships built for the Grand Banks cod fishery
    The other two are Argus and Creoula
    Each carried a flotilla of dories working handlines
    Creoula and SMM were built side-by-side in the same Portuguese yard
    Argus was built in the Netherlands and is marginally different ... but only marginally
    The three worked the North Atlantic under sail into the early 1970s when two were decommissioned
    SMM continued as a motorship right into the elarly 1990s before being laid up for many years, before eventually being rescued, rebuilt and rerigged. Owener is the fishing/seafood company Pascoal. She has only just returned to the saea and the Tall Ships Race is her first major trip
    Argus went to be a cruise ship in the Caribbean
    Creoula became a Portuguese sail training ship
    Nearly two years ago, Pascoal rescued Argus too, towed her back to Portugal where she lies pending reconstruction starting
    So there you have it, three big steel Grand Bankers, built in the late 30s and in the process of being reunited as sailing ships
    It is a remarkable story and Portugal is to be congratulated for having the courage to do this
    Argus is in some respects the most famous of the three
