Dated 1963 this one.
Back then you could leave the door open no problem at all, there wasnae anything inside that was either worth stealing or easy to remove..between a mk.5 Decca,a Coastal Radio big set,and half a hundredweight of Kelvin Hughes's finest ye would have needed a 14 pund hammer,a crawbar and a truck wi' a Hiab on the back tae tan one of them wheelhouses and get the swag ashore
Aye Ronnie was the same at end of 80's as well...everyone left their doors open etc...but a lot of incomers since then and I don't know what it's like now...not stayed since 1989 lol...all the oldies are long gone as well. When I was in Harris the guy that had the best shop in Tarbert was 93 years old...he was called Duncan and he ran the shop for a few years after that as well...it would never happen now I bet.
It's the same all over the world guys, when I came to OZ in 1980, we never locked our house, and the car stood on the drive open with the keys in the ignition. Now they are breaking into houses to get the car keys.
It's a sad fact but the new generation have NO respect for most things. I think we are partly to blame for giving their parents all the things we never had or could afford, plus the education, police departments & do-gooders have a lot to answer for . Bring back the local pollis who used to give you a belt across the ear, he certainly taught me right from wrong.
