Stuarty's Bay

Stuarty's Bay

A wee gut at the south end of Kerrera island before you turn the corner to go into the Kerrera Sound.Last resting place of Stuart Findlay of Peterhead's Star of Promise which went ashore there a good few years back and was a total loss. She was a 65ft. ex MFV and I doubt if there will be much left of her now.A "weel kent" face on the West Coast in all corners between the Tiree passage and Gigha and a bit of a character was Stuarty.

kept quite a few of the bars in oban in business ronnie. i think his last boat was the honestas (ardmore) there wasnt many rocks on the west coast  without stuartys paint on them.

He was on the odd one or two over the years right enough Terry, probably still anti-fouling there yet on some of them.Reminds me of a story that was told about the late Ross Macmahon who fished the Calum Cille (very successfully too) at the creels. He was in the bar of the Colonsay hotel when a visiting yachtsman asked about rocks in the Islay Sound.Ross proceeded to give the man chapter and verse on them all,not one was going to be missed out.Half way through the pilotage lesson a local worthy piped up "ach that's right, chust you ask Macmahon,he's been on efffery fukkin' one" !! A highland gentleman was Ross,a dab hand with a .22 ,rifle,he was very partial to attending "stag parties" on Jura lol
You are right Ross was a gentleman, the first boat Ross went to the fishing aboard was the Beulah with big Jimmy MacLean another thorough Gentleman.
those were good times ronnie. plenty characters about and a lot less bullshit.
