this is what used to be smiths docks on the north side of the tyne . the big drydock is now filled in and it looks like they are doing something with a couple of the smaller ones. it had a brief spell as appledores before closing down years ago



    Terry, What's hapened to Wm Press's Howden Yard, that was the last place I worked before I went to Norway, then on to emigrate to OZ. Regards Dave.  Spent a bit of time at Smiths both here and down at Middlesborough. :cheers: ( actually I reckon I spent more time at the Dock Inn and the Duke Of Wellington at Howdon than at work.) O0 learning to be a piss-head.had some great teachers in those days.
    the howdon yard is still there dave but i am not sure who has it now. they used to get ships in there loaded with big reels of flexilay pipe but i think they all go up to shephards offshore quay up at walker now.
