Vliestroom GY.6

    Great picture Dave.
She was made as a German warship in 1944 at the shipyard Gusto in Schiedam. After the war she was confiscated by the Dutch authorities and became a research vessel “Antoni van Leeuwenhoek”. In 1956 rebuilt as a fishing vessel and became IJM 7 “Zuiderkruis”, in 1959 HD 75 “Vliestroom” and in 1968 WR 6 “Vliestroom.
In 1985 sold to the UK and became GY 6 “Vliestroom”. Stopped fishing in 1994 and sold to an organisation in Rotterdam who is planning to rebuilt her in her original state.
The Germans built about 1040 of these vessels and the once that where left after the war became fishing vessels. The where wooden vessels but most of them where rebuilt in iron, like “Onze Linquenda” BM 202. The Vliestroom always held here wooden hull.
