THE HADOCK SHOPS IN THE FORGROUND
Posh Flats there these days - slums of the future?

    Regards

    Steve E
Yeah, but the Haddock shop is empty, I suppose smelly boats wouldn't be good for the surroundings now.
You mean "the water feature"

    wee bit of shields history,
the wooden hut and the fence in the foreground are covering what is / was known as dry dogger letch but is the outlet for the "sikket" burn.
although shields began as early as 1225
the prior germanus of tynemouth was only given permission legaly to develop north shields in 1290 he was granted the land between the pow burn and the sikket.
the pow burn as most shields folk probably know runs through the park and exits in the gut, and the sikket as pictured runs down under bedford street and exits at what was dry dogger letch. now probably through a pipe under the flats.
as i have said this was the land set aside for north shields town
