Racing model Fifie RHODANNA 1

Racing model Fifie RHODANNA 1

This is a racing model Fifie, built by me in December 2008-January 2009, under the guidance of Alex James Stephen, Peterhead.  The model is 3 feet long (1/20 approx) and is carvel-planked.  It was a sheer joy to build this model, as I felt I was building the real thing in some ways.  Each plank had to be cut and planed to fit.  I was used to this as a boy in Tiree.   The project was a retirement gift from colleagues when I retired in September 2008.  They knew their man!  The books in the garage are now used as ballast for my models!

Lovely bit o woodwork there Donald. I hear tales of the old-time modellers of Fife building something as beautiful as this, setting full sail and letting her go out to sea.  One senior told of how they would be hauling in their drift net many miles from land and witnessing a model Fifie scooting past on it's way to the Arctic circle. I think we're more possessive now.

Thanks so much, Will.  Most kind of you.  I am so pleased that I was able to pick up the secrets from the Peterhead men.  I have heard tales like that too - and I can well believe them.  These wee boaties go with the wind - and like the wind!  Off to Tiree for a week....now disappearing to Oban for the big boatie!  Donald
