This is a sketch (Bic pen job!) of a Tiree 'yawl' ('geola' in Gaelic, a borrowing from 'yawl'). She is the 'Mayflower', about 18 feet overall, built by Captain Donald MacDonald, Milton, Caolas, and probably the fastest such boat ever built in Tiree. With her large dipping lug, regatta rig, she used to win First Prize in her class at the local Regatta every year. I produced both sketches for Captain MacDonald's daughter, the late Mrs Isobel Johnston, who wished to produce a book of her father's Gaelic songs.
