KING GEORGE V - End of the Cruise

KING GEORGE V - End of the Cruise

Here's one for Brian Ward and all other enthusiasts who enjoyed the 'King George V'.  I knew the 'KGV' extremely well when I was a pupil at Oban High School (1965-67), and I sailed on her occasionally to Iona, on the round-Mull cruise.  Her majestic design and her outstanding woodwork are unforgettable.  This sketch was produced with felt-tipped pens on a Saturday morning.  I set myself the challenge of drawing the 'KGV' from an unusual angle which would emphasise her fine lines.  Ah well....The context is imaginary.  It fair made me greet when I heard that this lovely ship had been set on fire in Cardiff....Oh dear...what an ending!  As an historically important ship, she was a candidate for long-time preservation, if ever there was one.
