Christina II had a quite beauty about her ... unremarkable at the time but a beauty compared with most of what inhabits our ports these days
vestra lying ahead of her, only had a 66hp kelvin but very economical
was the first boat i went out on old coal fire stove in cabin which was used for cooking as well
I had a coal stove in Margaret Alison ... kept foc'sl really dry and warm
Beats gas any day becuase there's no condensation
Mind you, it sometimes glowed red!!!!!
Burned anything you fed it

Ye've got them rose tinted specs on again Jay lol...I put a coal fire in the last boat I had and I thought it would be back to the good old days, toasty warm, dry cabin, nice to look at etc. etc. It was all these things,BUT...it was dirty, manky, smelly, smoky,a pain in the arse to keep it(and the cabin)clean, and just about gassed at times if ye got a blowback...sometimes the good old days werenae THAT good !!!!!.....and if I got another boat I would probably be daft enough to put another one in
aye but it wis warm ronnie and oilskins were dry
Rose tinted spex?
How did you twig me?
Mustav been lucky and had a good stove ... it sure had a decent draft and was a really free burner
I hated gas ... much more dangerous.
I was gassed one night while lying in the creek at Kings Lynn aboard an ex frog boat called the Andree Germaine - winter 1976. A cockle boat sneaking out on the tide rammed us, woke me up, I blacked out a couple of times but managed to get up the companionway into the wheelhouse and collapsed out through the door onto the deck
I was effin lucky, jeez was I lucky. Never did find out who rammed us ... I wish I did becuase he almost certainly saved my life
The boat was sold shortly afterwards
So an old bogey stove is just ideal from my point of view!!!
