Noss Head CN 144 Steaming

Noss Head CN 144 Steaming

The Weatherhead built Noss Head CN 144 steaming past Portrigh, Carradale in the late 1930s. My grandfather at the wheel and my father sitting up at the bow. I think the man standing on the port side of the wheelhouse with the long arms is Kai Ritchie.

A great picture of a rarely mentioned ringer. Unusually steeply raked brailer pole, a bit similar to the way the King-Fisher TT55 held hers.
A very short career. She was requisitioned by the War Department along with her neighbour 'Silver Cloud' and was sunk off Freetown Sierra Leone. The Silver Cloud suffered a similar fate and both skippers were left boatless. The level of compensation paid out was enough to rebuild these boats at pre-war prices, but hardly enough to build a punt post war.
