Oban harbour

Nice pic Ally,cheers.Columba at the North Pier,? Iona? at the Railway Pier. Far right in the drying berth is Kai's Golden Hind,next tier against the pier Jim Todd and Tam Batchelor's Dunedin,then our old ship the Storjen,with Robbie Miller's Niels Risager on the outside.Tier on the left,inside boat ?Andy Fairnie's New Dawn?,no 100% on that one though,then the Elsa,and Ted Jones's Solway Firth.Far left the blue yin at the slip I'm still puzzling about.I'll take a guess at Summer 1974 (before August 75..the Segull isnae there) as both the Storjen and Niels Risager have their new wheelhouses on and the Hind is there...maybe that was her up on the beach getting repaired after running ashore at Colonsay,that was in 74.

Remember being dragged out of bed to see Golden Hind on rocks exciting stuff at 7 yrs old Ronnie. Also remember crew and skipper left on first ferry, my father and Findlay Macfadgen spent days caulking and patching her. They never did find the anchor as it was chucked without chain or rope certainly the important bit was gone when the rope was hauled in.Another legend from Oban area came down to tow her off but new all and wouldnt listen to daft locals, got her off but ran her over a shallow point 100yds away did more damage than being blown ashore fanned up. Was towed to Colonsay harbour for more repaires. Was told the story on Oban pier some years back by Alec D certainly not the way i remember it but didnt burst his bubble

I cannae remember the finer details of that escapade glassard,but I'm sure you know that history very often gets "slightly distorted" over the years,sometimes it's folk's memory,other times it's a wee touch of "guilding the lilly"...whichever one it is,there's usually several different versions of the same event lol....if you are who I think you are, then I reckon you will know the true story
