James S. Main helping David Moir land the catch of the ex Lossiemouth Seiner Ajax INS 168 at Oban in 2002
Unless I've been calling him by the wrong name for years ??....I was always under the impression that "James S" had "Main" as a surname.
That's right James Sutherland Main one of Scotlands's great characters and still going strong at 80.
Thanks Ronnie, now corrected!
A great character indeed Nessies and a helluva nice mannie..."The geriatric fusiliers" we used to call them when he was aboard wi' Cyril on the Vernal at the prawns in the Passage...aye but come landing time they had every bit as much as us(and more a gey lot o' times)...they werenae THAT geriatric !! I thought he was 2 or 3 years past 80 actually, but I'm probably wrong.
You could be right about the age, Ronnie. He's still making bonny models. Cyril Ralph passed on a few years ago now.
the old and the youny fisher men
Used to help us land sprats in oban about 10 years ago...Likes his herring!
A bonny job he makes of painting life-belts as well as his model making Nessies,a good man wi' a net too...multi-talented,and he still disnae wear glasses.A hardy chiel right enough, made o' strong stuff. He wid withstand yin o' thae bunker busting bombs that wis dropped on Saddam Hussein.
