RIBHINN DONN I

RIBHINN DONN I

Back at it after a break
Have mugged up a Miller Fifer style ringnet winch though have yet to make/buy the winch barrels
The brailer pole is sitting in place to create an illusion of semi-completeness.
Have yet to make masts, derrick and brailer fittings, load of wheelhouse detail, shaft and prop, etc, etc

    Jay,

What a model looks great, hopping to learn more at Anstruther on Saturday. Westbob and I are showing slides of the Vine and Golden West through their rebuilds hope to learn a bit about building one of these fine models there. Would like to make one of the Golden West some time in the future.

One thing I've never checked out at Anstruther is what yard drawings are held there and whether they sell copies
I note in the forum reference to Golden West ... recall driving past her when she was on th beach at Loch Melfort and then later when your dad/yourself had her straightened out with new wheelhouse etc. You guys were regulars at Tighnabruaich with her in the early 80s as I recall
Rather doubt if drawings of any of the Fairlie boats survive
Also note in the forum a question about Reekie drawings. Will be interesting to know if the museum is their custodian
The 1930s Celladyke ringers are immortalised in Harold J Underhill drawings ... Manx Fairy, Rose, etc
    Jay,

My dad asked at Fairlie about blue prints of the Golden West before we started converting her but the woman who ran the yard would not give us any details she wanted to buy her back and convert her. I thing it was William Fyfes grandaugther who was running the yard.  The reason they wanted her back was she was all brass composite nailed and splined with 2 x 250 gl white metal lined copper fuel tanks.  We pulled a nail on her and you would have thought she was built the day before no corrosion at all. With such a high spec they wanted her as a cruiser. Maybe if they had taken her she wouldn't now be at the bottom of the Gairloch. The guys that bought her just let her fill up over 12 months without pumping her and she went down. Have thought about whether she would be worth lifting after 8 yrs under?
