Knoxy the encouragement is there, just if you do your deck or engineering ticket it gives s you a crackin start and can be used for the trawlers as well, if thats the way you choose to go. Just gives you a safety net to fall back on, and also you'll have some fun seeing the world doing your cadetship

I got to agree wi Barry tho, definitely worth gettin a qualification under your belt, then if things did go tits up, you wouldnt end up stackin shelves in tesco. And lets face it, now that we're in the united states of europe, theres a very good chance of it goin tits up.
Its all very well followin your heart (whether its filled with blood or saltwater), but that might nae pay the mortgage in years to come.

go fishin if you want knoxy lad. but give yourself options for the future. i fished on prawners and pelagic trawlers. ive seen the best and the worst. get a few strings in your bow mate.
