Fairlie might have built a well put to-gether boat(and they were,as you would expect from a yacht yard)and they could carry a bellyfull of herring in fine style, but they werenae the bonniest looking ones in the fleet. Her neighbour on the other hand ?...it's all been said before about Nobles, nothing I can add.
is this the new dawn that used to belong to fisherrow

have to agree with ronnie but then i am biased, i have the original plans, well a copy of the plans for the new dawn, the same plans were then used for the jasmine, a couple of variations, stern shaped slightly different and i think i'm right in saying the new dawn wa a couple of feet longer than the jasmine's 54ft 6", this is a cracking pic as it would show just how the jasmine would have looked when launched. i notice that alisdair noble is a member, i know he has pics of the jasmine being launched as he said he would send them to me, forgot about it till now, i'm sure he has access to plenty of pics of every build, it would be great to see them on here, even a gallery of nobles builds, best looking wooden boats ever built in my humblest of opinions, tho the other boat is very pleasing to the eye too

That's the one that the late Andy Fairnie had Liberty.John James (Horne)had the Fair Morn in Port Seton for a while in the late 60s after the Thorntree.

When the Fair Morn came into Dunbar she was still varnished and as you say Morris she was a couple of feet longer than the Jasmine(I think she was a ticket boat actually)and the opinion from the pier was "should be at the seine net wi' that size o' boat and that power" !! (it was a 114 that she had) She was in beautiful nick then and far far too good to be scratching at the prawns...yon wis sacrilege !! Just took another look at your post QW and no,the New Dawn was about 54ft,give or take 6".

both were built as 54ft from the plans tho the slight difference in the shape of the sterns added a wee bit onto the new dawn job no. 24, january 1956, the jasmine was march 1958, job no.28, a smaller version was built some years later as job no. 36 the magdelena, i rescued the wrong drawing from the damp of the shed just now, it doesn't show the alteration in the stern designs, my hen like memory means i can't remember where i put all the other copies, i have one of each in A0 size and a couple in A2 and A4 i plan to frame the bigger ones and had intended to use the smaller as ref. for the model i started, fingers no use for picking up and holding small things so its shelved till next year when its a bit warmer in the shed. i also have the fitting out instructions which make very interesting reading and show how much care and attention was put into the build, even the parts that would never see the light of day were treated with as good a finish as the parts of the boat that would be seen on a daily basis.
if it was a house they were building it would have lasted a thousand years., mind you mine is wooden and over 60
did andrew lees have the fairmorn in the 70s she was painted blue by then
