Dunbar life-boat

Dunbar life-boat

The George and Sarah Strachan,a 47 ft Watson of 1931 vintage, and the first motor life-boat in Dunbar, returning after a service. My grandfather at the stern far left and his step brother Peter "Boups" Johnstone next to him.I'm guessing that the other one pulling on the rope is either Davie Brunton or his brother Robert George and at the wheel, their Father Davie who was cox then, but I wouldn't like to say for certain.Up forward,I think the one furthest away is the bowman "Big Zander" Wilson, don't know who the other lad is though. As to the date? again I'm guessing here, but it looks like the boat is going ahead picking up her mooring in the middle of the harbour and as "Boups" isn't at the wheel,it could be around 1953 plus or minus a year, given that he took over as cox from Davie in '54.

Glad to say the George and Sarah Strachan is still with us and is now used as a workboat at Dunoon on the other side of Scotland. In her current guise she was prominently shown in a photograph in The Sunday Post earlier this year - Jings! Crivvens!   She is a 45ft 6in Watson rather than 47ft.

Cheers for that info aguila wren, nice to know that she's still on the go,remember her well as a kid,my uncle was engineer for a wee while.I assume by your name that there's another retired lifeboat about somewhere! Good book that one by Lund and Ludlam although a sad story.
