Not 'cold storage' but 'Cold Lay Up' - that is the stage one up from just Lay Up.
Lay Up is when there is still a crew on board and some of the vessels engines will be running - usually auxiliaries.
Cold Lay Up is where there is no crew on board and all engines are stopped.
Financial difference is that with a Cold Lay Up the costs are cut on wages and fuel but dependent on the time the vessel is idle the start up costs can be quite high

These aren't Bulkers, they are Container Ships, although there are also numerous Bulkers also on lay by throughout the globe

Yes there are firms specialising as Cold Lay By Consultants - a lot of planning goes into the situation, not just a case of pressing the 'off switch'
