Old Tait used to say that if you weren't sure which side of the buoy to take, just go as close as you dare, as it was laid by a ship!

Them auld fellas were wise lads right enough Dunard,the Old Man was of that opinion too."The ship that laid the buoy floated there,so will you" was what he aye said. On abandoning ship..."Never leave the ship 'til the ship leaves you" was another good bit of advice,but my favourite one of his was "there's only one rule of the road...if he's bigger than you get tae fu*k oot his wey"...very sound advice indeed !!

i remember reading in tom ralstons book that black jim manson used to say that a matchstick "is aboot an hoors steam" on the chart. priceless........
