Lying in Penzance, June 2009
saw the rust streaks on Shemaron last week and still no mizzen mast , us owners are at any time only a few months away from having a boat that will attract comments like poor jasmines owner
Ach, don't worry, Shemaron's is a class of her own
It will all take longer than you would like ... that's the way it is
She's a classy lady

Chris I don't think you would let your boat get in to the same state as the Jasmine, I think you would have more sence and get shot of her, A lot of people get on about the cost of the up keep of them boat no one I when I say no one I MEAN THAT try to tell me what it costs to keep one of them boat they have'nt a bloody clue, we spent our lives looking after boat's and having to dig deep in to hard earned money, A lot of fishermen would have liked to keep there boat for the same reason as you but they know the cost of the up keep after 40yr at the fishing one should, who ever are the owners of the JASMINE THERE A DISGRACE letting the boat get like that, if I did'nt have the money to keep my boat the way she should be kept she would have to go. The Castle Moil another victim of some of them muppets as some one above said when that boat was sold she was like new now a disgrace people that get them boats into that state should not be defended they should be bloody horse whipped.
Chris as you point out you boat owners. we were the OWNER OF THEM BOAT LONG BEFORE YOU CAME ALONG
s'not cheap. Pansy costs me just shy of 3 grand a year in mooring fees and insurance just to leave her sat in the marina
Spent about 3 grand so far on timber and bits and pieces, but have done all the work myself, would of been way in excess of that had it gone into a yard. The real irony is, structurally she'll be almost as good as new soon, but probably worthless, but a boat that is festering away with a caravan on the deck and nice curtains will sell quickly!

Well this has got the debate going. We all admire these boats and deeply respect those who owned and worked on these boats. The Jasmine is not a lost cause and we should encourage the owners, by being constructively critical and encouraging. OK it costs a lot as it did in their working lives, but we should all be on the same side (I'm sounding like a social worker ). I know it upsets many to see any boat in a bad state of repair, but at least there's still the chance of saving some of them before they have gone forever.

I'll second that

this topic died six years ago, wonder what she looks like now? i'd be happy if she's anywhere close to how the shemaron looks today. she looks as good as the first time i remember seeing her 40 years ago, not holding my breath that the jasmine looks as good as she did nearly 43 years ago when we bought her. the QW on the other hand? is beautifully converted into a dive boat for a club in denmark and has had a complete refit and re-engine to replace the 350 cummins i put in her in april 1990
