FS Glaive - P671 and HMS Example - P165

FS Glaive - P671 seen here behind HMS Example - P165 at Hillgate Quay, Gateshead, Tyne (North East England). Photographed from Newcastle Quayside - 20th May 2007.

FS Glaive is a French Gendarmerie Maritime fast patrol boat which was on the Tyne to take part in maneuverer's with HMS Example.

The Gendarmerie Navale (also known as Gendarmerie Maritime) is a 1,100-man corps of the French Navy. Like its land-based counterpart, the Gendarmerie, it is a military unit carrying out police operations.

Its missions include immigration control, monitoring of fishing operations, police at sea, and search and rescue operations. The uniforms, ranks and insignia of the Gendarmerie Maritime are those of the French Navy.
