Admiral Collingwood

Admiral Collingwood seen here in Eyemouth Harbour (Scotland) on 23rd May 2007.

Anyone out there know anything about her?

Cannot find very much at all on the Web.

    Hi Graham

I always thought of them being 'naughty' rather than 'bad'  O0

The 'theory' of the Training Ships existence was spot on, but perhaps in todays mollycoddled and PC World it wouldn't be acceptable to the do-good brigade. However, I'm sure society would be a better place if we had the likes of TS Wellesley back again!

I'll drink to that. Talk about the PC Brigade. If they saw copies of the Wellesley punishment books where lads were flogged daily for absconding & not doing as they were told etc.. they'd shit themselves.
It wasnt the best place to be for a lot of lads but for others, it made them what they are today. I can honestly say it didnt do me any harm.
Talking about bad & naughty boys. Would you believe a lot of lads actually volunteered to go there?
It'd be impossible to run anything along the lines of Wellesley nowadays though with all the pricks in Government etc..

By the way. the old 'Admiral' can come out of the 'unknown' category now ! O0

    Hi Graham

Perhaps too many stories from the days that the TS was sat at North Shields in the Tyne - I suspect that was before your time  O0

F*ck me Steve. It left The Tyne in about 1914 !!

The punisment books though are from the 50', 60's & 70's. Thats why the Northumberland Archives have locked them down. Fortunately, we have copies of many of them.

Here's another challenge for your members. Before the Admiral Collingwood became the WNS Training Boat, they had an ex Fisheries Protection Vessel named Wellesley 2. or Wellesley 2nd. Anyone know anything?

Thanks again to you all for your help with The Admiral Collingwood, especially Steve for the excellent pics. A lot of ex Wellesley lads appreciate it, especially one who's in very bad health and who used to steer her. We have a pic of him at the helm in 1968. He's delighted we've found her after all these years.

    Sorry for waffling lads O0
    Hi Graham

I know, it was meant to be a joke  O0

    I'll be 98 next month O0
    Hi Graham

Doing well at 98 then  O0

Your question on Here's another challenge for your members. Before the Admiral Collingwood became the WNS Training Boat, they had an ex Fisheries Protection Vessel named Wellesley 2. or Wellesley 2nd. Anyone know anything? got me thinking, I know bad idea at this time at night. Would it be safe to assume that the boat was renamed as Wellesley 2. or Wellesley 2nd only after it became the property of WNS?

    Steve

It would indeed be safe to say that. We dont know what it was called before WNS aquired it but it was definitely an ex Fisheries Protection so when it went where it went it will have still been called Wellesley 2. Maybe someone will remember it being renamed or whatever?

    Thanks
