'MV NORTHUMBRIA

'Be Skipper for a Day'

There has recently been a major refit of the Gannet boat acquired from Stainsacre Residential Centre near Whitby.  The work included the installation of a new diesel engine which has made the boat more reliable and easier to handle.

For a small charge, school, youth and community groups are able to charter the Gannet to explore the River Tees upriver from Middlesbrough through the Tees Barrage to Yarm.

The boat, which has a maximum speed of 6 knots, is fully equipped and capable of carrying 12 passengers.  They can supply life jackets and waterproof clothing as required.  All they ask is that the person in charge of the group spends a day or two with them training in the safe handling and operation of the boat.
