Kevella BF 364

Think she got decom'd ??

    Hi Ally

According to this site - http://www.coastalan...64-pic_1620.htm

Lost round the West coast a few years ago when called Quiet Waters and B reg.

    She changed her name as:
    1992-09-15   FR366   HARVEST MOON
    B436   QUIET WATERS

Not too sure if this is the same boat:

(From Aberdeen Press & Journal (UK))

The skipper of a fishing boat that sank in rough seas off the Hebrides yesterday described how his crew was forced to abandon ship.

Alister Hossack, of Balblair, Dingwall, and crew members Robin Ross, of Bishopmill, Elgin, Hugh Patience, of Hilton, Inverness, and Latvian Danius Laurinavicius were rescued from the liferaft by another vessel, the Gleaner, which was fishing nearby. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency praised the crew for taking the correct action in launching the vessel's liferaft.

All four are safe and well following the Wednesday night drama but the fishing boat Quiet Waters sank early yesterday.

Mr Hossack and his crew were returning from a fishing trip and were 20 miles from Barra Head when an alarm went off, indicating the boat was taking in water.

The crew began pumping out the hold but were unable to get the water out quick enough.

Mr Hossack gave an order to abandon ship and the four men escaped into a liferaft.

Speaking from his home last night, the 39-year-old skipper said he was devastated to see the boat sink and described galeforce winds and waves 15 metres high.

He said: "It was like the Titanic going down.

"The boat was rolling around on the waves and there was a great swell.

"Thankfully we got into the liferafts and everyone got off safely. We waited around to see what happened and the boat sank around 12.30am." Mr Hossack, who has been fishing for 25 years, said: "The bilge alarm went off so I sent one member down to check the water level and start pumping out. He came back and said the hold and fishroom was half full with water.

"I had a look at it to see how bad it was. There was no exaggeration and I knew it was serious." Mr Hossack contacted the Coastguard and alerted a nearby boat, the Gleaner, that they were taking in water.

Mr Hossack now plans to relax with his wife Anne and children Daryl, 13, and Steven, 7, until Christmas and return to fishing in the new year.

Stornoway Coastguard was scrambled with two salvage pumps on board and the coastguard launched Mallaig and Barra RNLI lifeboats after a mayday call from the Quiet Waters.

Vessel owner Tony Kenning, who is originally from Ireland but who has lived at Mallaig and operated vessels from the small port for many years, said he had no idea what had caused the boat's problems but confirmed: "The men are all OK."
