there sure are a lot of you over that side, do you ever hear from howard, nigel and trevor, you should ask sweltered about the day howard had his "niece" out with him and she was speaking to everyone on the VHF, it was that entertaining we forgot we were meant to be hauling, the three of us, me, sweltered and our cousin duggie were in stitches listening to him, the full sides aching, sore jaws ans tears of laughter streaming down our faces, duggie has one of these laughs which you have to join in with, the fart mask story was priceless, funny thing is i can't remember a single detail all i know is it was the funniest thing i've ever heard.

nice lads, aye had a lot of time for them, nigel was a good runner too, i remember one night in gigha, a crowd of us heading up the road to the hotel for a pint, a good two mile walk in the dark, there had been a cattle sale or something that day and a few of the islanders had shall we say been imbibing freely, just as we got to the first houses in the village there came a deep "hello there" from a ditch, nigel took to his heels and didn't stop till he got to the bar, he wasn't the only one mind you, most of the half a dozen or so took off too, being a step or two behind i had a better view and had seen the figure in the ditch just as he spoke, it was big willie Mcsporran, he'd nearly made it home and had misjudged the entrance to his hoose and ended up falling in the ditch, he'd been in the ditch for a couple of hours, said it was comfortable enough and the night was quite mild, me and the cousin helped him up and to his door, by the time we got to the bar the rest thought some ghost had got us, we never let on claiming we'd ran the other way, watching them all hugging the opposite side of the road and their pace speeding up as they passed the spot on the way back to the quay was nearly as funny, i was only 16 and to see grown men so easily spooked was very amusing, we kept them in the dark for weeks afterwards, some of them wouldn't walk up the road again, if they didn't get a lift they stayed aboard.
