Aye Davie,(and,I hasten to add,I'm no meaning you when I say this lol),there's the other side of the coin too,how some men could near fill an artic wi' their landing and others were left wondering if their gear wasnae jiggin' right 'cause they could hardly fill a barrow....'til ye saw what was in their boxes....f*ck all !!!

Aye right enough Bryan,if ye had a par of white long boots and a Vinco Douper wi' a hood ye were well rigged....throw in a Lowen Messer knife to complete the outfit and ye were cock o' the walk !!
lang boots fir  cleekin ha ha,, aye soaked ti the baws
The white North Star boots were the best lovely and soft to wear and the Vinco 57 frock and a sou wester painted a few times to stiffen it up., with a piece o twine doubled from the back o the wester with a overhand knot about three foot down then passed round the waist and tied at the front ti stop the wester blowin off !!!   ahh the good old days, a frock, a long pair a boots and not a pissy arsed pair o gloves in sight. !!
Hands like iron, I cans still remember my Wife cutting me fingers to get out the gurnard bones and pricks out o me fingers from cleaning out the baitbands o the pots, and I used to have boils nearly up to me elbows.
Good old days --- Well I am still convinced they were the best, the pots, the winter lines, the spring Shields drifts fishing, the frantic Whitby fishing  with the smaller length o nets, then the potting for new shelled lobsters, then back to the lines.
    Loved every minute of it.!!
Woah you,d lose money nowdays from overfilling the boxes lik that ! quality quality  etc !
